When Zombies Attack

Check out the great new web show, B-FX - from the folks at NNN (Next New Networks).

Each week BFX host Erik Beck, "shows you how to create special effects the fun and cheap way, and then subjects his siblings, roommates, and puppets to his creations. Each week he takes challenges and suggestions from you, the viewer, and gets those latent creative juices flowing fast and free without making your wallet sweat."

With all the web video geniuses out there these days - this is a show whose time has come!

Wallstrip - Day 192

Sunday, June 03, 2007

SKX "borrowing" from Wallstrip, maybe?

Just saw a Skechers advert on ESPN News. It showed a bunch of shoes under a table "talking" to each other.

"I like the shoes, so I'm buying the stock," one pair of shoes proclaimed to the other during the short 15 second spot. Couldn't help sensing a little Wallstrip influence. Companies pimping their own stock in their ads... never know, a new ad trend on the horizon?

Porn Industry Feels the Bite of Web Video

NY TIMES - June 2, 2007
For Pornographers, Internet’s Virtues Turn to Vices

By MATT RICHTEL
The Internet was supposed to be a tremendous boon for the pornography industry, creating a global market of images and videos accessible from the privacy of a home computer. For a time it worked, with wider distribution and social acceptance driving a steady increase in sales.

But now the established pornography business is in decline — and the Internet is being held responsible.

The online availability of free or low-cost photos and videos has begun to take a fierce toll on sales of X-rated DVDs. Inexpensive digital technology has paved the way for aspiring amateur pornographers, who are flooding the market, while everyone in the industry is giving away more material to lure paying customers.

And unlike consumers looking for music and other media, viewers of pornography do not seem to mind giving up brand-name producers and performers for anonymous ones, or a well-lighted movie set for a ratty couch at an amateur videographer’s house.

Not Just In Name Only

When I first came up with for the tag line for this blog "New Media Mogul" it never occured to me that a little less then a year later, I would be exactly that. Wallstrip is now the property of CBS, and they snapped up Adam and I right along with the deal. Executive Producers of Orginal Content for CBS Interactive - don't think you can get a position any closer to a 'new media mogul' than that. Yes, the gig comes with an expense account and a corporate Amex, but more importantly it comes with a MANDATE to keep producing the most innovative and entertaining content on the web! I'm agnostic, but I can't lie, I'm in heaven!

The entrie acqusition process was a fascinating experience. As someone who has always been interested in the meeting point of art and commerce, I really learned alot from people on both sides of the deal. Agents, lawyers, media execs, partners, investors, board members...there were alot of dogs in the hunt. Tensions ran a bit high. But in the end, things ended well with everyone excited about joining the Eye.

One of the most flattering quotes about the deal was pointed out to me by dear friend and mentor Joe, who saw the story in the Times (the St. Pete Times that is ; ) - "But to CBS, Wallstrip’s content is not as important as its expertise, said Joshua Jaffe of The Deal’s VC Ratings blog. Wallstrip’s value, he wrote, comes from “all the things the Wallstrip team has learned since it launched in October." That's a very intuitive comment from Joshua Jaffee. All I can say right now is CBS has big plans for our expertise, believe 'dat!

Also, we all loved this cartoon around the office today. Wallstrip host Lindsay Cambell immortalized:
